What is the Bible?

I asked my mother what she thougt the Bible was and she said, "The Bible is a comprehensive account of the history of the ancient Isrealite civilization, and its progression over time to the religious world present during the times of Jesus. The Bible also entails many prophecies and laws to be followed regaurding both the Jewish religion and present day Christianity."

When looking the Bible up in an online dictionary, it was defined as being, "The sacred book of Christianity, a collection of ancient writings including the books of both the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Hebrew Scriptures, the sacred book of Judaism."
